A Giant Cityscape and an Abstract Jazz Band
We’ve got some incredibly talented artists working at Paint Party Studios and we gave them some giant canvasses to paint for the new Midtown studio at 15 Upham St. They got right to work – Meghan is painting a giant cityscape with the USS Alabama in the foreground and Jordan is painting an abstract jazz band.
I’ve been trying to get pictures as we go along – watch for updates – they’re not done yet.
To the right is the first day filing in the background and below are some ‘during’ shots. We can’t wait to see the finished canvas – stay tuned for more images.
Meghan will be teaching Drawing and 3D & Recycled Art after school classes at the Azalea City Center for the Arts (near Dauphin & I-65) this fall and Jordan will be teaching Drawing, Drawing Comics and Painting at our Old Town Daphne studio.
Paint Party Studios is Moving Back to Midtown!
We’ll be opening our new Paint Party Studios location at 15 Upham St, Suite A on Friday, August 21st. We’re still in the process of finishing up the remodelling of the new space but we’ll be posting pictures very soon.
We couldn’t be more excited about moving back to Midtown with a great new space to host private paint parties and our usual Friday and Saturday Open Studio sessions. We’ll be open that Friday (8/21) for Adult & Teen Open Studio from 5:30pm-9:30pm and Saturday (8/22) for Kids & Adults Saturday Open Studio from 12pm-5pm.
That Saturday night 8/22 will be our first Date Night in the new space starting at 6pm. As always, bring your favorite food and drinks to enjoy while you paint.
We’ll be just a short distance east of Dauphin St and I-65 on Upham between Dauphin and Old Shell Rd (across from Fuego Coastal Mexican Eatery and in the same building as Delish’s Desserts). Call 251-343-2423 for reservations.
Saturday 8/8 is our next $20 Date Night
Define “Date” any way you want – bring a spouse, friend, relative or “it’s complicated” – we don’t judge. It’s just another way of saying Adults Only Open Studio for $20 per person. Our last Date Night (7/25) was busy – we only had about a dozen seats left once everyone got started (and we can seat about 50) so call us at 251-343-2423 to reserve your seat.
If you haven’t been to Open Studio with us before, don’t be afraid – we welcome beginner artists. You need to arrive between 6pm and 7:30pm because the paintings take 2-3 hours to paint and most people don’t want to be painting past 10:30pm. We won’t kick you out if you do take a little longer – but your arm may get tired and your date may get bored waiting.
You can pick what you want to paint beforehand by browsing our Paint Party Studios Online Gallery and emailing us with the catalog number of what you would like to paint. If you can’t decide, you can wait until you arrive and look through our lookbooks – just allow for an extra 15-20 minutes at the start while we get those sketched for you.
Once you have your pencil sketch on canvas, you get your paints and we give you some instructions to get started and then we have roaming artists you can wave over when you need to know what the next step is. While you’re painting, you have lots of other beginner painters (and some not-so-beginners that join us) to mix and mingle with to make the evening fun and relaxing.
We’re Enjoying Our Last Week of Summer Art Camp
We had some great young artists in the studio today in our last week of Kids Summer Art Camp. They were learning about positive and negative space. We got some inspiration from Georgia O’Keeffe’s abstract paintings to paint a background on our paper. Then we chose a shape to cut out on a small square and painted the positive and negative of our shape. The end result was a fun checkerboard of painting to illustrate to our young artists the concept of positive and negative space.
Kudos to Peyton for incorporating a Georgia O’Keeffe-inspired skull shape into his art (see the one to the right)!
Though this is the last week of Kids Summer Art Camp, we’ll have Afterschool Art Classes beginning in September (registration the last week of August) for ages 6+ at the Azalea City Center for the Arts (at Dauphin and I-65).
Still a few seats open
Our last week of Paint Party Studios Kids Summer Art Camp starts tomorrow 8/4 and we have room for a few more to join us. Please use this online registration to register your child if you haven’t done so already.
Paint Party Studios Kids Summer Art Camp is from 1pm-3pm Tuesday-Friday. Tuesday is Drawing Day, Wednesday is Painting Day, Thursday is 3D or Recycled Art Day and Friday we have a Pizza Party and either finish an earlier project or have some free time for painting. Cost is $60 per child for the week. Aftercare (from 3pm-5pm) is available for an additional $50 for the week.
If you purchased a Groupon earlier in the summer, this is the last week to redeem it for Kids Summer Art Camp. It will not carry over to next summer and it cannot be used for our after-school classes in the Fall.
For our last week we will be studying the Art Element Space (we will learn about perspective in our drawing and painting) and our Master Artist will be Georgia O’Keeffe and find inspiration in her quote: “I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way – things I had no words for.”
We’re starting to schedule Fall Fundraisers
It’s time to start thinking about back-to-school and we’re already getting some Fall Fundraisers on the calendar. We can come to your location – whether it’s your school or a local bar/restaurant. We bring our art supplies to you or you can come to us.
We can work with small or large fundraising groups and can customize the art choices for your group to make your event unique. You can choose from a variety of canvas sizes and price points or if you want to do a wood door hanger fundraiser we can help you with that as well.
Call us at 251-343-2423 to plan your group’s next paint party fundraiser.
Love these bright colors in this custom design
We had a great time with some talented painters this morning that visited our studio on a summer school field trip. Their theme this summer was a tiki/luau theme so we came up with these bright island flowers to paint on their visit.
We love to help design a special painting for your group to go with the theme of your event, school mascot or just to be sure your group paints something different for their paint party.
Call 251-343-2423 to schedule your group’s paint party with us and let us know if you want us to come up with a fun new image to paint.
We Love How Creative Birthday Moms Can Be!
We are always delighted to see what our kids birthday paint party moms come up with for decorations! They’re always so colorful and inventive with the party favors and treats. This week they had brightly colored snack bins and this clever lolipop centerpiece that I snuck a picture of after she dropped it off Friday night for an early Saturday surprise party.
Children’s birthday parties can be scheduled on Saturday mornings or early afternoon, Sunday afternoons or weekday afternoons with advance reservations. Our birthday party package is just $180 for 10 children to paint (additional children are $18 each).
You can bring whatever decorations, food, drinks and treats you wish – we have a fridge with a freezer in the back so you can even bring ice cream (and many do!).
And yes, adults can enjoy adult beverages if you wish – I wasn’t there but rumor has it Saturday morning’s birthday mom provided yummy mimosas for the other moms in attendance!
Call 251-343-2423 to schedule your child’s birthday paint party.
