We had a fantastic time this week in Paint Party Studios Kids Art Camp studying Eric Carle’s painting style and learning about the Art Element Value. And this week’s 3-D & recycled art was jewelry-making where we learned various methods to paint pendants and then make necklaces out of them. These are a few samples of what the campers made with a marbled paint effect cut into shapes for one pendant and repurposed scrabble tiles painted with fun designs for initial pendants.
Then we wrapped up the week making these batik-style paintings with using shaving cream while enjoying a pizza party.
Our last week of Paint Party Studios 2015 Kids Art Camp is August 4-7 (Tues-Friday) and we have a few spaces left. Use our online registration to register.
Also watch for upcoming details about our Afterschool Art Classes. We have some really exciting classes we’re working on – we’ll have a schedule and more details available by early August.
Saturday July 25th is Date Night – $20 per person
Date can be however you define it – last time we had date night we had quite a few couples, but also some girls night out groups and even a sorority alum reunion. Really it just means a special $20 price on Adult Open Studio with no kids in the studio.
So bring your friends, bring some food and bring some drinks and we’ll provide all the art supplies, the wine glasses, the bottle openers and the fridge to keep your drinks cool. And guys you can bring beer – you don’t have to drink wine to paint.
Pick your painting ahead of time or pick when you arrive – we seat people between 6:00pm-7:30pm and we close when you’re done painting (or your friends tell you you’re done!). Call 251-343-2423 for reservations.
Christmas in July Wood Door Hanger Sale – $20 each
We still have some wood door hangers in-stock with Christmas designs, crosses, pineapples, footballs, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and many one-of-a-kind shapes. Come in this afternoon and paint yours for just $20 per door hanger.
These are normally priced at $35 for the shapes and $40 for the letters – but right now everything in-stock is just $20. Letters are also on sale – in the standard size as of first thing Saturday morning we have A, C, D, I, L, N, O, P, S, T, W, Y and Z and in the jumbo size we still have A, B, D, E, F, G, H, L, R and S. When these are gone, so is the special pricing so don’t wait.
Some of our current stock is pictured below. We have lots of one-of-a-kind shapes not pictured including a sea shell, owl, heart, palm tree, crab, teddy bear, star, bunny and many, many more.
We’re not just for kids here at Paint Party Studios
We’ve been busy lately with Date Nights, Girls Night Out, Adult Birthday Parties, Bachelorette Parties, Sorority Parties and more! While we love hosting the kids by day, at night we really have fun with our BYOB Paint Parties. So grab your friends and come paint with us – whatever the occasion – and really the guys love to paint, too! We had many guys in for last Saturday’s Date Night – we just were so busy we didn’t get any pictures until the last group of four finished!
We have Date Night every other Saturday Night (next one is 7/25) and remember you don’t really have to bring a date – last Saturday we had three groups of Girls Night Out, about eight couples and a sorority reunion – things werereally rocking that night!
We are open every Friday night for Open Studio starting at 5:30pm with last seating at 7:30pm. We stay open until you are done (which with 2-3 hour paintings is about 10:30-ish for the last ones in at 7:30pm).
We are also open by advance group reservations of 6 or more painters on Sundays and Weeknights. Last week we had one group of ladies for a birthday party, a group of co-workers getting together for multiple birthdays and another group for a bridal shower. Next week we have some teachers having their faculty party before they start the school year. There’s always a good reason to have a paint party – just get your friends or co-workers together and give us a call at 251-343-2423.
Van Gogh Sunflowers Using Paint Texture Techniques
We’re studying Vincent Van Gogh and the art element of texture this week and learning about creating texture in our art. We painted with all kinds of tools on Wednesday to create texture: sponges, paint brushes, plastic knives and forks, palette knives, scraps of aluminium foil, the eraser-end of old pencils and even plain old brushes.
The kids art campers were so creative with their textures for their sunflower petals – they had a great time making all kids of patterns and learning to paint outside the box! Here’s one of our finished sunflowers and below you can see we had a pretty creative workspace going. The last picture shows all the non-traditional art tools we were using after we got cleaned up.
Each week we study an art element and a famous painter and learn how to combine our art element into works inspired by our feature painter. There are only two weeks left of art camp – the week of July 21st and the week of August 4th and we do have some seats available. Go to our online registration before it’s too late.
Still Taking Registrations for Art Camp
There is still time to register for the last weeks of Paint Party Studios Kids’ Art Camp 2015. Just go to our online registration to get your child on the list. Payment is made on the first day of camp. We still have room in the last three weeks although this week (the week of the 15th) is close to full.
The weeks of July 21st and August 4th still have space available but every week we’ve been averaging 20+ kids so if you haven’t signed up yet – don’t wait as we’re expecting those to be well over 20 kids as well (we allow up to 30 per week).
Every week we study an art element and a master artist and then create our own original art based on what we’re learning. Last week we worked on color wheels and did some printmaking as we learned about Andy Warhol. The kids were fascinated by their ability to duplicate their image (and no computers or printers were used in the process!).
Parents Night Out – Kids’ Art Night (ages 6+)
After a break for the holiday weekend – it’s time for another Parents Night Out Kids’ Art Night from 6-8pm Saturday, July 18.
We know how hard it is to find a sitter so why not treat the kids to their own fun night out while you go have a nice dinner? For just $25 per child, you can drop them off at 6pm and pick them up at 8pm. They’ll be busy with art projects and pizza while you get a much deserved date night out. If you can’t make it right at 6pm that’s okay – they can be a few minutes late but you’ll still need to come for them at 8pm when we finish up.
Call 251-343-2423 to reserve for this Saturday, July 18th. We strongly recommend reservations as seating for this is limited so we can only take walk-ins if we have seats still available.
Each Kids Art Night will feature some fun instructor-led art project, two slices of pizza per child and a juice drink. If you would prefer to provide your child’s dinner, we have a fridge and a microwave available at the studio. If children finish the instructor-led art project early, we provide drawing pencils and paper so they can keep the creativity going until you come to pick them up.
Some weeks we’ll be learning about a master artist and drawing or painting in a work inspired his or her paintings, some weeks we may do open studio canvases and other weeks we may be more whimsical and do some art themed around a popular movie or game. You never know what’s in store on Kids Art Nights but we know it will be producing some fun art that the kids will enjoy.
Parents Night Out – Kids Art Night is for children ages 6-12. Unfortunately we cannot accommodate children younger than 6 for this event and we find kids 13 and over just aren’t that into hanging out with the younger ones. You’re welcome to make a reservation to bring the Little Painters (ages 3-5) to a weekday morning session (see our website) and the older kids are always welcome on weekday afternoons, Friday nights or Saturday afternoons (see our calendar).

All of our Wood Door Hanger Letters and Shapes are on sale for $20 each while supplies last. This is for what we have in-stock in the studio at this price. The normal price for Wood Door Hangers is $35 for shapes and $40 for letters so this is a great deal – but when our current inventory is gone – the special pricing is gone, too.
We still have the letters: A, C, D, E, I, L, N, O, P, S, T, W, Y, and Z
We also found some super-sized letters in the back room: A, B, D, E, F, G, H, L, R, and S
We have plenty of Christmas door hangers including snowmen, stockings (pictured here), Christmas trees, ornaments and many, many more. Plus get a jump on Fall with pumpkins or a turkey.
We have some state shapes (Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama); some footballs, fleur de lis, some crosses (including the crown cross pictured here) and lots of single items we don’t have pictures of yet. We will hold an item with payment by phone 251-343-2423.
We’re open on Friday nights for adult/teen open studio (no children under 13) or come in Saturday afternoons from noon-5pm. Date nights are every-other-Saturday and the wood ornaments are available those nights as well.
Paint Party Studios Kids Art Camp: Learning Color Mixing
This week our art element is Color and we are learning about color mixing. The art campers started with the three primary colors and had a great time experimenting with color mixing to create a rainbow of colors. They were amazed to learn that they could make pretty much any color they could think of with just those three primary colors.
We’ll also be doing some print-making this week as we study Andy Warhol and his quote, “Art is what you can get away with.” We’re learning about how he painted mundane things and repeated them with many different colors to make art. So we’ll be doing some print-making to make our own Warhol-style art.
We have three remaining weeks of Paint Party Studios Kid Art Camp and still have space available in those weeks. You can register your child (ages 6+) using this link: Online Registration.
